OBIT: Adelard ‘Al’ St. Onge, 83, Korean War Veteran

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown on Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 at 9 AM for Adelard “Al” St. Onge.

Mr. St. Onge passed away on Wednesday morning surrounded by family in the E.N. Rogers Memorial Hospital, Bedford, MA after a lengthy illness. He was 83.

Born in Westport, MA, Al graduated Watertown High School, class of 1954. Al served in the US Army during the Korean War, (1st Infantry Division), a member of the Society of The Big Red 1. After being discharged from the Army, Al completed his education at Watertown High School and married the love of his life, Eileen Ford. Al worked as a tire salesman for BF Goodrich, Quirk Tire and Mal’s Tire & Towing of Arlington. He ended his work career as the insurance administrator for Middlesex County, retiring in 1999.

Al was a volunteer with Watertown Pop Warner, Youth hockey, Girls Hockey and the Watertown Boys & Girls Club. He taught CCD and was an usher at St. Patrick Parish, Watertown. He served 25 years on the Watertown Housing Authority. He formed and coached the rifle team at Watertown High School for over 25 years.

He participated in walks for Homeless Veterans and was a frequent volunteer at the MDA telethons. He was an active member of the VFW Burnham –Manning Post 1105, serving as the state Sergeant-at-Arms for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 440 and the Korean War Veteran of Massachusetts.

He was the beloved husband of Eileen (Ford). Devoted father of Eileen M. Rocca & her husband Thomas (Watertown Police Captain) of Burlington, John K. (Watertown Police Officer), Jean A. both of Watertown and Robert A. of Seattle, WA. Loving grandfather of Christina Rocca & her fiancée Nate Monteiro, Rachelle Rocca Green & her husband Nate, David & Joel Rocca and Gideon & Summer St. Onge. Father in-law of Amy Wellso-St. Onge and Linda St. Onge Capeless.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown on Saturday at 8 AM followed by Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown at 9 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Interment St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM.
