Watertown’s Shannon Murphy drives to the hoop in the state semifinal. The junior center made the Boston Globe and Boston Herald 2016 All-Scholastic teams.

Just a junior, Watertown High School center Shannon Murphy has earned her second All-Scholastic honor this year, as she made the top team of Boston area high schoolers for both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.

Murphy and the Raiders fought all the way to the State Final this year before falling to Longmeadow in Springfield. Murphy also made the Middlesex League All-Stars.

Verbally committed to play at Holy Cross, Murphy will be back at WHS for one more year. This year she averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds, according to the Globe.

The Herald noted that Murphy and a core of seniors helped Watertown’s girls basketball team win its first ever Eastern Mass. title and played in its first state final.

While Murphy made the All-Scholastics list, it was senior Katelyn Rourke who was named the Middlesex League Most Valuable Player, according to the Herald.

Other players received League All-Star honors, including senior hockey players Tyler Gardiner and Tyler Poulin, who lead the Raiders to the North Section final for the second year in a row.
