Mary Labadini

Mary Labadini, devoted mother and loving sister, passed away Aug. 3, 2018, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 61.

A native of Watertown, Mary was a diligent student her entire life, and hailed as an alumna from Watertown High School (Class of ‘75), Regis College (undergrad and Masters) and University of St. Joseph’s (Masters). Mary devoted the first part of her career to those also seeking higher education, and from 1991-2000, she worked at Mt. Ida College in Newton, first as the Director of Residence Life, then Dean of Students, and finally Associate Vice President of Student Development. There she formed lifelong friendships with fellow administrators, educators, and students alike. Upon leaving Mt. Ida, she continued her career as Dean of Students at Curry College in Milton.

In 2006, Mary left the collegiate world and found her passion serving seniors as the Executive Director at Sunrise Senior Living Center in Weston. She stayed with the company for the remainder of her career, serving as ED later in Norwood, Burlington, and then Arlington. Her favorite part of each day was the time she spent with the residents learning about their life stories.

Mary loved her family: her parents, Mario and Ann, and her siblings Ann, Carol, and John. She had three daughters, Sarah, Caitlin, and Rose, in whom she instilled a love of education, music, and a healthy dose of competitiveness in each of them. They could often be found singing around the piano or teasing each other at McGolf. As a family, they loved to travel, from weekend trips down the Cape, to week-long cruises to Bermuda, Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. Mary was never happier than when she was in the sun with a large McDonald’s Diet Coke in hand, surrounded by her girls.

Family and friends will celebrate Mary’s life by gathering for visiting hours in The Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St., Watertown, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Burial private.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA.
