The following information was provided by the Department of Public Works:

Watertown’s Department of Public Works will begin flushing fire hydrants this week, and will continue for the next six weeks.

The Department of Public Works sent out the following announcement:

In order to maintain the high quality of drinking water in Watertown, the annual program of flushing mains will begin during the week of Sept. 17, 2018.

Flushing hours are Monday through Friday 7 p.m. to midnight.

Consumers may experience discolored water at times during the weeks of Sept. 17, 2018 through Oct. 26, 2018.

The water is safe to drink but may have sediment kicked up during the flushing process and may taste bad. Water consumers are advised to store water for drinking and cooking during this time.

  1. I would complain that the town often releases this information in unsearchable PDFs (forcing me to read every street name to see if my street is listed), but in this case, they misspelled my street name (Wilmot St) anyway, so I would have been frustrated either way.

    • I totally agree! Many documents are also sideways too. We need searchable/readable documents for residents to read in order for better community involvement .

  2. There are two Hydrants on my street but I only see one listed. Does that mean the other one will not be Flushed? I’m on the October 10th night.

    • They probably just made a mistake on the form. All hydrants throughout the town are flushed. The second one will certainly be flushed Oct. 10 as well.
