WHS Sports: Track Star Wins State Title, Lacrosse Teams Make Tourney

Watertown sprinter Mange Camara added another state championship to his list of titles.

The senior won the 400 meter event at the All-State Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Westfield State on Saturday. His time of 48.29 seconds was a tenth of a second better than the time that won last week’s Div. 4 meet, and was .41 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

In February, Camara won the 300 meters in the All-State Indoor Meet, which he added to titles at the Div. 5 meet and the New England Championships.

On Saturday, senior high jumper Abbi Peterson placed 11th with a jump of 5-feet-2-inches. Also, senior Nathan Follett finished 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.13.

The boys 4 x 100 relay team of Camara, junior Karim Monroe, freshman Mason Andrade and senior Nathan Follett got 16th place with a time of 44.42 seconds.

The Raiders finished 24th in the team competition with 10 points. Lowell won the team title with 50 points.

Lacrosse

The boys and girls lacrosse teams both qualified for the State Tournament.

The WHS boys will play a road game against Weston on Monday at 7 p.m. The Raiders finished the regular season with an 8-8 record, and earned the 11th seed in the Div. 3 Central/East tournament. Weston (12-3) is the sixth seed. The winner faces third seeded Tyngsboro on Thursday.

The girls team got the 12th seed in the Div. 2 East tournament and will travel to play fifth-seed Weston in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner faces No. 4 seed Foxboro in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The Raiders finished the regular season with a record of 5-15.
