May flowers may have been brought by April showers, but there do seem to be plenty of May showers around as well. This weekend there are fun activities to accommodate both flowers and rain. You can start Friday evening with a unique film about a famous Greek musician, Stelios Kazantzidis at the Majestic 7. There is a Watertown Children’s Theater production of Hadestown with their high school aged actors on the weekend evenings or Saturday and Sunday matinees. On Saturday there is the first Watertown Eco Fest at the Commander’s Mansion that will be educational and fun. Sunday is Mother’s Day a perfect excuse for a delicious breakfast at a restaurant in town. After your filling meal, I recommend the medicinal plant walk that the library is hosting that afternoon. It’s great if your mother is into plants or if there isn’t a mother nearby and you are simply interested in plants yourself. No mothers required.

Join herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a stroll about town to meet the plants along the Charles. The group will learn about their botany and medicinal uses. They approach herbalism by connecting folks to the knowledge they already have about their body and herbs through working with kitchen medicine, ancestral traditions, and mulberries falling on the sidewalk. You can find out more about their work at mokatzchristy.com. Note that this program begins at the library patio. (Heads up that arriving late may mean you miss the group’s departure.)
