Police Log: Employee Caught Stealing Cash from Register, Checks Taken from Mail Altered to More Than $31K

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

July 1: A mattress and boxspring were dumped on the roadside of Walnut Street.

July 1: A man and a woman stole $38 worth of merchandise from Target.

July 1: Two suspects, one male and one female, took $50 worth of merchandise from CVS on Mt. Auburn Street.

July 1: Two juvenile males were seen taking $70 worth of food and beverages from CVS on Mt. Auburn Street.

July 1: A resident found a phone number for Venmo in an internet search. He called the number and gave the person his credit card number. Later he saw that two charges were made for $885 and $986. He realized it was a fake number and contacted police.

July 1: Home security cameras were smashed with a hammer on Warren Street and Edenfield Avenue. Police identified the suspect, who is a juvenile, and are working with the victims.

July 2: A man walking on Main Street smashed the front window of Not Your Average Joe’s at about 6:50 a.m. Police are investigating the case of malicious destruction of property.

July 2: A package containing $18 in clothing was taken from Warren Street.

July 3: A vehicle parked on Pilgrim Road was broken into sometime between 2 p.m. on July 2 and 9 a.m. on July 3. An iPhone charger was taken.

July 3: Another vehicle on Pilgrim Road was broken into during the same time frame. A flashlight was missing.

July 5: A man at Target took four Starbucks reusable cups with a total value of $120.

July 5: An electric bike was taken from the backyard of a home on Prentiss Street. The resident parked the bike there on July 3, and noticed it was gone on the 5th. The Viva electric bike was valued at $1,000.

July 5: A Derby Road resident got a call from someone claiming to be from Newton-Wellesley Hospital, saying that the resident owed $1,400 from a visit in 2024. The person gave the caller their name and date of birth. Later that resident contacted the hospital and was told that they had not made the call. The resident has not seen any fraudulent activity.

July 7: A bike was taken from an apartment building on Coolidge Avenue. The bike had been locked to a rack in the basement. Sometime between June 27 and July 7 the lock was cut and the bike was missing. Police are investigating.

July 8: A twin-sized mattress was left on the side of the road at North Park Street and Boyd Street.

July 8: An employee of Working Gear was arrested after taking more than $4,300 in cash from the register. The man stole money on several occasions, beginning in April. After an investigation Reggie Louis Saint, 31, of Boston, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $1,200 by single scheme. He also had a warrant from Quincy District Court for driving with a suspended license.

July 8: A man was caught taking $351 worth of merchandise from Target. Debao Zhen, 45, of Boston, was arrested for shoplifting.

July 8: A woman got into an argument with an employee at the Watertown Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. The employee called police, and when they were investigating officers found the woman had two arrest warrants. Brandi Mahar, 35, of Taunton, was arrested for the warrants: one from Hingham District Court for larceny, and one from Brockton District Court for shoplifting.

July 9: A resident mailed two checks from a mailbox outside the Post Office on Galen Street. Later the resident discovered the checks had been altered and $31,700 was taken from a bank account.
