The Watertown Police and Recreation departments will host a family event with activities, music, food, followed by a movie on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

National Night Out will take place on Aug. 5 from 5-8 p.m. at the park behind the Police Station 552 Main St., said Watertown Police Lt. Kevin McManus.

“The Recreation Department has done a movie night with us, hosted out back (behind the station),” McManus said. “We had activities happen pre-movie, and we saw it as an opportunity to get public safety information out.”

Some of the activities planned include a bounce house, yard games such as corn hole, an inflatable obstacle course, demonstrations by the WPD’s three dogs, and a touch-a-truck activity where participants can get a close look at vehicles used by police and firefighters. Food will also be served, including hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza.

Parents and children can learn more about the roles of the Police Department.

“We will have a table for each function within the Police Department,” McManus said. “People can ask them what they do. We will have information about scams or a table about our Advocates (counseling) program, the school resources officers will have a table, and traffic might have road safety information.”

There will also be activities for kids at each table.

Joining the WPD will be members of the Watertown Fire Department.

“Anytime we have some community function, like the Community Academy, we invite the Fire Department to participate,” McManus said. “Probably our number one partner on a day-to-day basis is the Fire Department.”

The movie has not been announced yet, but McManus said people can follow the Watertown Police Department’s social media for more info (Instagram @watertownpolice, Facebook @WatertownPoliceDepartment, X (Twitter) @WatertownPD)
