WEEKEND FUN: Classic Cars, Crafting, Meditation, Classic Radio Play & Cribbage

Print More

You can start this beautiful summer weekend with a contemplative sound healing meditation on Friday evening at Mount Auburn Cemetery. It’s going to be cooler, though rain could interfere in that plan. If so, you might go instead to catch an entertaining radio mystery at the Mosesian that evening or on Saturday night. They promise hijinks and cocktails, a delicious combination! As a person who loves to share resources in our Facebook Buy Nothing group, the arts and crafts swap on Saturday afternoon at the library is a draw. Sunday afternoon there is a classic car show at the Commander’s Mansion. I wish I still had one of my old VW bugs. They must be classic by now. If tabletop gaming is more your style, there’s a cribbage party happening at the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, all levels welcome.

BULLETS OVER BOSTON, presented by the POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS
Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, 8 p.m.
Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Mt Auburn St.

The Post-Meridian Radio Players Summer Mysteries returns with two Dashiell Hammett radio classics! First, it’s hard-boiled parody in “The Adventures of Samantha Spade!” a gender flipped version of the 1940s radio series “The Adventures of Sam Spade!” In this episode detective Samantha has been framed for murdering the owner of the private schooner, the Steve Starr! It’s up to Samantha to both clear her name and find the real killer.

And in “After the Thin Man!,” we recreate the Lux Radio Theater broadcast of 1940 as murder hits close to home! Nick and Nora Charles investigate the murder of Robert Landis, the fiancé of Nora’s cousin Selma. Hijinks and cocktails ensue.

SOUND HEALING MEDITATION
Friday, Aug. 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St.

Sound Healing practitioner Marlene Boyette welcomes all to be held by the earth, to find refuge, to rest, and to be led through a guided meditation intended to bring the mind and the body into unison, while also engaging the senses. Weaving together the sounds, vibrations, and energy of our natural surroundings with a variety of instruments (including deeply resonant crystal and metal singing bowls and chimes), participants will be bathed in layered sonic acoustics. The experience will close with an opportunity for all to reflect and set intentions for the new season through dialogue and/or journaling.

What to bring: a yoga mat, blanket or towel, a journal, and writing utensil. Plastic folding chairs will be available if needed.
