Watertown Police Identify 2 Suspects for Recent Car Thefts & Break-ins

Two suspects in a string of motor vehicle thefts and car break-ins have been identified by the Watertown Police, who warn residents to lock their vehicles and be vigilant.

On Monday, Sept. 1, Police said they made progress the case.

“(Monday) we had a break in the case that resulted in two juvenile suspects being identified. The two individuals will face charges. As a result of this development, a car and additional property have been recovered as well. We will continue investigating in partnership with our neighboring agencies to establish the full scope of this matter,” the WPD’s announcement said. “We thank the many community members who have supported us in this effort.”

The break came after a vehicle was stolen from Harnden Avenue on Sunday, and 15 vehicle break-ins were reported on Monday, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. on Worcester, Fitchburg, Quincy, Springfield, and Palfrey streets.

Police were able to get video from home security cameras showing the suspects.

“If anyone recognizes this person, please contact the Watertown Police Department Detective Division, Det. Joe Kelland at 617-600-1310,” the announcement said.

Since July 31, Watertown has had over 75 vehicles broken into and six vehicles stolen, according to the WPD.

In response, Watertown Police has been “stepping up patrols and investigating diligently” in response to the car breaks and car thefts

The Watertown Police also provided tips to help avoid car break-ins:

• Always lock your vehicle, even if parked in your driveway

• Never leave keys, fobs, or valet keys inside your car

• Remove or hide valuables such as wallets, laptops, or bags

• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible

• Report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911
