It’s a perfectly beautiful season to stroll the cemetery while learning more about the gravestones and their history. On Sunday afternoon there is a showing of the documentary, “Memories Flow Beneath It,” about the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir and the towns that disappeared in the process. COLONIAL REVIVAL CEMETERY SYMBOLISM WALKING TOUR
Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4,  5-6:30 p.m.
Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St.

The Colonial Revival Movement was a national expression of early North American culture, primarily the built and artistic environments of the East Coast colonies. The influence of this movement even reached the nation’s cemeteries, which saw an increase of colonial-era gravestone motifs called Memento Mori and a resurgence in the use of slate for monuments. As we look back on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, we will explore this unique era and style and see how it compares to its inspiration found in the early colonial burial grounds of New England.

CREATIVE CHATS WITH MEGAN RAMETTE of the WATERTOWN ZINE FEST
Friday, Oct. 3, 8:30 a.m.
Mosesian Center for the Arts, Arsenal St.

Matt Hanna of Little Local Conversations will lead a talk with Megan Ramette. Megan is a library worker, community organizer, and zine collector. She has worn pretty much every hat you can wear with Watertown Zine Fest since its inception in 2021 — zine team member, fest promoter, zine cataloger, featured speaker, and zine marketplace tabler. The conversation will revolve around zines, their importance as a medium, and how people can overcome imposter syndrome and the challenges of a freeform medium to create zines! The event is free, but they ask that you RSVP to help plan for attendance.
