Police Log: Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges, Business Scammed Out of $1.1 Million

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Sept. 30: An elliptical machine and four monitors were left near a hydrant by the Community Path.

Sept. 30: The Internet Crimes Against Children, a federal and state task force, alerted the Watertown Police about a case of child pornography. A warrant was served on the suspect’s home and as a result he was placed under arrest. Dylan Faherty, 30, of Watertown, was arrested for possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

Sept. 30: A mattress and a mini-fridge were dumped on the side of Clarendon Street.

Sept. 30: A man took food and a bicycle lock worth a total of $46 from Target.

Oct. 1: Two juveniles took $617 worth of merchandise from Target.

Oct. 1: A man tried to cash a check at Citizens Bank in Watertown. The $1,000 check was from the City of Dover in New Hampshire. Bank employees contacted Dover and found that the check was not legitimate. The man said he was not aware it was fraudulent and said he was approached by a man in Boston who asked if he wanted a job. He was given the check and told how to cash it. The case is still being investigated by Police. Kashon Clemetson, 32, of Boston, was arrested for uttering a false check.

Oct. 1: A man tried to take a phone charger and food items from Target. He was stopped and the 29-year-old Boston man was summoned to Waltham District Court on a charge of shoplifting.

Oct. 1: A Ralph Street resident reported that someone scammed her out of $1,420. The resident received a call from a man who said his name was Kevin and he was from the Apple Fraud Department. He said he was investigating suspicious activity on her account, and said someone made a $149.99 transaction. She said it was not her. The caller said someone also tried to make a $14,200 charge on her account. He instructed her to report it to Bank of America security and then transferred the call to BofA. The resident thought she was talking to a representative from the bank. The person asked for info about her account, and said the only way to protect the money was to withdraw it and put it into a secure account. She took out the money and was instructed to tell the bank that it was for home repairs if the teller asked about the withdrawal. She got $8,000 in cash and more in a cashier’s check. The resident then was told to go to the BofA in Newton. She was also told that someone from the FTC would come to her residence to get the money and she was given a password. A man wearing a mask showed up and gave the password. She gave him $1,620. After the man left the resident realized it was a scam. Anyone with information or who was involved in a similar case is asked to contact Watertown Police at 617-972-6500.

Oct. 2: A wood table and a recliner were left on the sidewalk on Walnut Street.

Oct. 2: A mattress was left on the side of Cottage Street near the Community Path.

Oct. 2: A man took a pair of shoes from Target.

Oct. 2: A woman entered Target and took $645 worth of merchandise.

Oct. 3: A man was stopped after taking apparel and beauty products from Target. Juliana Pablo, 65, of Boston, was arrested for shoplifting.

Oct. 3: A woman stole $197 worth of clothing, groceries, and health and beauty items from Target.

Oct. 3: Target reported that a woman took $200 worth of beauty products.

Oct. 4: Two women took two T-shirts and a soft drink from Target. They were able to evade store security and were seen leaving on the Community Bike Path behind the Watertown Mall.

Oct. 4: A Hiboy electric scooter valued at $500 was taken from outside Starbucks.

Oct. 5: An employee at a business at 520 Mt. Auburn St. got a call from what the person believed to be an Eastern Bank employee. The caller said there had been some fraudulent withdrawals from the business’ bank account, and the bank could stop the transaction but would have to confirm some account information. The following day the business noticed a withdrawal of $1.1 million. The case remains under investigation.

Oct. 5: A woman took $165 worth of items from Target.

Oct. 5: Target reported a man who stole $80 worth of items and was seen leaving on foot toward Best Buy.

Oct. 6: A mattress was left on the side of Main Street.

Oct. 6: A man brought a bag into Nike and took a pair of sneakers valued at $150.

Oct. 6: Nike security reported a man and a woman who collectively stole $305 in merchandise including bags and sneakers.

Oct. 6: Two people reported being hit by a pellet gun. Around 7:45 p.m a victim was on Laurel Street and when he turned onto Dexter Avenue he heard a sound that was like gunfire and then saw it was a toy gun. He was hit on the right side by a spray of pellets. He saw two males on a moped wearing dark clothing and helmets, one black and one white. The passenger laughed as they rode away. He believed the gun was a Gel Fire water pellet gun. The victim was not injured. A short time later, a woman called police. She said she was walking with her son on Mt. Auburn Street at Walnut Street when she was hit by pellets. She gave an identical description of the suspects.

Oct. 7: A shoplifter took $308 worth of items from CVS on Mt. Auburn Street.

Oct. 7: A Lawrence Street resident ordered from Papa John’s. It was delivered but was taken off the front porch. The resident saw someone on a moped leaving with the pizza.
