Police Log: Man Found Undressed in Apartment Building, Medicaid Scam

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Oct. 9: A worker at an apartment building on Arsenal Street was told that someone saw a totally nude man in the hallway. The worker came across the man in the building’s stairwell who was wearing no shirt and his genitals were exposed. The worker was caught off guard, was shocked and alarmed. The worker also found a collection of personal items, clothing and trash, and it appears the man was sleeping in the stairwell. Police were contacted and officers located the man. Officer Michael Scafidi placed Ronald Jacobs, 59, of Watertown, under arrest for open and gross lewdness.

Oct. 9: A Downey Street resident received a phone call from Discovery about someone using the resident’s Bank of America account routing number to open a credit card. The resident did not have a Discovery card, and found that someone had made seven charges for a total of $118,000.

Oct. 9: An electric bike was locked to a pole in the rear of the CVS on Main Street. The owner returned and found the lock cut and the Aipas 2, valued at $980, was missing.

Oct. 10: A woman was driving out of the parking lot of the Dunkin’ on Mt. Auburn Street when another vehicle entered and came close to hitting her car. The woman, a 54 year old from Watertown said the driver gave her a dirty look. The first woman told Police that when she attempted to speak with the other driver, the other driver opened the door and punched her in the face multiple times. Then she got back into the car and left. She called police and gave a description of the other woman. Police located the second driver, an 18 year old from Chelsea, who said that she was entering the parking lot when another vehicle came close but did not hit her. The 18 year old said the first woman began screaming at her, opened her door and began punching her. Neither driver needed medical attention. Police told both that they could seek a complaint in Waltham District Court.

Oct. 10: A man told Police he was walking around Target with his girlfriend and he heard a man talking angrily to himself. He couldn’t understand him. Then the man turned around and began yelling at him, stepped toward him, and got within inches of him. The man thought he was about to assault him so he pushed him away with his hands. The two began fighting, fell to the floor and were wrestling until Target employees intervened and separated them. The other man said he was threatened by the first man. He said he was minding his own business, then turned around and the first man pushed him. Both refused medical attention and were told they could seek a complaint at Waltham District Court.

Oct. 10: A man was leaving the Nike Store when a man drove by him and yelled in his direction. He did not recognize the man, who began staring at him. An argument ensued and the man in the car threatened to shoot the first man. He called police but the man had driven away before they arrived.

Oct. 11: A woman was stopped while shoplifting at Target. She took a total of $156 in merchandise. When speaking with her, Officer Robert Gorman discovered the woman had a warrant for failing to attend jury duty. Nitika Rose, 53, of Brockton, was arrested for shoplifting and on the warrant.

Oct. 12: A Target customer parked in the lot, went into the store, and returned about 15 minutes later to find a moderate-sized dent in the rear bumper.

Oct. 14: A Fayette Street resident reported two men tried to get into his backyard. He believes they stopped because a motion detection light went on in the backyard. They never opened the gate, and left the area.

Oct. 14: A shoplifter was stopped at Best Buy with $420 worth of merchandise. Officer Frank Forde arrested Pietro Dicola, 46 of Boston, on a charge of shoplifting.

Oct. 15: An electric bike was taken from the side of a house on Howard Street. The Ancheer e-bike was valued at $800.

Oct. 15: A man received a call from someone he thought was from Medicaid. The woman called from a Boston number and asked for his Medicaid card number and issue date, along with his full name. He provided the information and later became suspicious. No money is missing from his account, but the account is being monitored. Police received reports of a similar incident in Belmont.

Oct. 15: A man took five items worth $69 from Target.
