Police Log: Driver Arrested After Hitting Police Cruiser, Car Stolen in Watertown Ends up in Malden

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Dec. 21: A man took $100 worth of merchandise from the Stop & Shop on Pleasant Street.

Dec. 21: A vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with a Watertown Police cruiser at the intersection of Bemis Street and Edenfield Avenue. The officer was traveling westbound on Bemis when a red Kia Sorrento failed to stop and went into the intersection, striking the cruiser. The driver had an odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet. Field sobriety tests were conducted and James Garber, 39, of Watertown, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop. The officer was not injured.

Dec. 22: Domino’s reported receiving five transactions from a fraudulent credit card for a total of $435.

Dec. 22: A man took $30 in food items from Target.

Dec. 22: A package was taken from the front porch of an Orchard Street home. It contained $422 worth of merchandise.

Dec. 22: A shoplifter took $12 worth of wrapping paper from Target.

Dec. 23: A woman walked into Best Buy with, concealed a pair of Skullcandy wireless earbuds valued at $35, and walked out without paying.

Dec. 23: Best Buy reported that a man went into the store, placed three desktop gaming PCs onto a cart, and walked out of the store without paying. In total they are valued at $5,540. Police are investigating.

Dec. 24: A Mercedes was parked in a driveway on King Street and at 4:30 a.m. the owner reported the vehicle missing. The owner was able to track the vehicle using a cellphone. It was seen in Malden, Saugus, and Revere. State Police found the car parked and unoccupied in Malden. The case is under investigation.

Dec. 25: Someone dumped baskets filled with used toys and clothing on the side of Coolidge Hill Road.

Dec. 26: A man took $145 worth of merchandise from Target.

Dec. 28: Target reported a male shoplifter who took $41 in groceries. He was seen heading west on Arsenal Street.

Dec. 29: A woman reported her Apple account had been hacked. She discovered this when she was at the Apple Store trying to trade in her phone. She was told another person obtained access to her iPhone serial number and transferred ownership of the phone to someone else. She was unable to trade in her phone.
