Police Log: 2 Arrests for Trying to Cash Fraudulent Checks, Man Busted for Exposing Himself

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

March 1: Officers were dispatched to the Municipal Parking lot off Spring Street and encountered a woman. They checked her information and discovered she was wanted on a fugitive from justice warrant out of New Hampshire for possession of a controlled substance. While police were doing an inventory of the contents of her vehicle they found some pills and illegal drugs. Officer Colton Bailey arrested Jill Clarke, 41, of Waltham, on the warrant as well as charges of possession of a Class C drug and possession of a Class E drug.

March 1: A man took $106 worth of merchandise from Target.

March 2: A man went into Pure Barre in Arsenal Yards and approached the front desk. Employees said he made inappropriate comments to them, and then said “I have something to show you guys,” and he took his genitals out of his pants. Calvin Freeman, 40, of Boston, was arrested on a charge of open and gross lewdness.

March 2: Two window air conditioning units and two sofa cushions were dumped on a snow bank on Katherine Road.

March 2: A 17-year-old girl from Boston was caught taking $202 worth of health and beauty items, and toys from Target. She will be summoned to Waltham District Court.

March 3: Someone left two mattresses at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club.

March 3: Police received a report of illegal dumping in a dumpster on Spring Street.

March 3: A man took two T-shirts valued at $32 from Target.

March 4: A man took Lego from Target valued at $192

March 4: A man took $550 worth of Topps baseball cards from Target.

March 4: A resident tried to sell a desk on Facebook Marketplace and was contacted by a buyer who said that because the person did not have a business account they had to take payment through another service. The buyer said they would send $600 and refund the seller $500. The resident said she thought she was speaking with a legitimate person from Venmo who had her set up Chime, Zelle, and Square accounts. She shared her computer screen during the process and she became concerned that the caller might have seen her credit card, passwords, and Social Security Number. She hung up but was not sure if any money had been taken.

March 4: A vehicle was reported stolen from Duff Street. The keys to the Acura had been left in the center console and the car was left unlocked. While officers were on the scene, they received a report that a motor vehicle had been recovered on Duff Street. That vehicle had been stolen from Cambridge on March 3.

March 5: A woman took 10 items from CVS on Mt. Auburn Street valued at $181.

March 5: Best Buy reported that a man took four pairs of Sony earbuds valued at $758.

March 6: The owner of a hair salon opened the Citizens Bank app and saw a negative balance. A check had been mailed from a box in Belmont and someone took the check and changed the amount on the check to $500. Several check fishing cases have been reported in Belmont recently.

March 6: A shoplifter took two bottles of Twisted Tea Margarita Mix that cost a total of $30.

March 8: Two electric bikes were taken from Arsenal Yards. The black Movcan bike worth $1,000 and the black Tuttio valued at $1,724 were taken from near the Santander Bank. They were last seen when they were locked up at 2:30 p.m.

March 9: A man went into Cambridge Savings Bank and attempted to withdraw $28,950 using a bank note. The man had a passport, driver’s license and Citibank credit card with another man’s name on it. The bank contacted police. The man told police he was picked up by three men in Pennsylvania in a sedan with New York plates and brought him to the bank. Officer Devon Shatkin arrested Joseph Taggart, 54 of Pennsylvania, on charges of forgery of a document, uttering a false document, possession of stolen RMV documents, and two counts of ID fraud.

March 9: A Chapman Street resident put a check in a mailbox at Warren and King streets. It was originally a credit card payment for $148, but it was changed to a person’s name and increased to $14,487.86.

March 9: A woman was seen taking $447 worth of merchandise from Target.

March 10: A resident received a message saying that the TSA Pre-Check was expiring and clicked on the link provided. It asked to give a name, date of birth and credit card information. The resident realized it was an illegitimate website.

March 10: A man went into Eastern Bank and tried to cash a check for $400,000. Bank staff determined it was probably fraudulent. The man had opened a bank account on March 3 and deposited $100. He provided a fraudulent Brazilian passport and driver’s license. Igor Ribeiro-Reis, 29, of North Andover, was arrested on charges of ID fraud, uttering a false check, and forgery.

March 10: Employees at Ulta discovered three items were missing valued at $663.

March 10: A man took 15 items that cost $424 from Target.

March 10: A reclining chair and a black table were dumped on Baptist Walk.

March 10: Trash was dumped at the Department of Public Works Facility.

March 11: A resident received a notification that there had been a data breach of their health care company. The resident received a call from an unknown number and the person said his name was Dan Miller from Google and was calling to restore a compromised Gmail account “from the backend.” Two hours later, the resident got another call from a guy named Dan Miller who said he was calling from Coinbase. The resident thought it was legitimate and gave the man access to the crypto account in Coinbase. Later the resident discovered the Coinbase account and a PNC Bank account linked to Coinbase had been compromised and $10,000 was missing.

March 11: The Parole Board contacted the Watertown Police Department to say a warrant had been issued for a man who had a monitor that had been tracked to Watertown. Police officers located Kasheme Craig, 27, of Quincy, and placed him under arrest for the warrant.

March 12: A water cooler was dumped on the corner of Highland Avenue and Copeland Street.

March 12: A woman concealed makeup and cosmetics at CVS on Main Street and left without paying. The 10 items were valued at $464.
