Watertown DPW Trash and recycling pickups resumed Monday.
Republic Services resumed trash and recycling pickup on Monday, while contract negotiations continue. Residents who have overflowing garbage bins can drop off items at a drop off location.
Trash can be dropped off at 148 Waltham St. on Tuesday, July 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., City officials announced Monday. This location is only available for bagged household trash and will not have available recycling dumpsters or space of bulk items.
See the update provided by the City below.
Curbside pickup will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, with regularly scheduled Tuesday B week services in Watertown. Republic Services replacement crews collected trash and recycling today, Monday July 7, 2025, for those with Monday trash pickup, and B week recycling pickup.
Republic Services has informed the City they will continue providing service to Watertown using replacement crews while they continue labor negotiations with their striking unionized workforce. Please be aware pickups are expected to take longer and occur later than usual, and the City of Watertown appreciates your patience. If you’re scheduled for trash and recycling pickup on Tuesday, please put your barrels out all day into the evening and report a missed pickup only if the barrel has not been picked up by the following morning.
If your regularly scheduled trash pickup was missed on Monday, July 7, please contact the 311 Service Center by dialing 311 in Watertown, or you can report the missed pickup using the Watertown App or at the City’s website. If your regularly scheduled recycling pickup was missed on Monday, July 7, the City has been made aware of the delay, and has been advised Republic Services intends to return on Tuesday to complete those pickups. We appreciate your patience.
The Watertown Recycling Center remains closed at this time, as Republic Services is unable to provide staff to operate it and haul the recycled materials. Curbside recycling pickup will continue as scheduled this week for B Week. Please visit the FAQ at watertown-ma.gov/republicstrike to find the recycling pickup calendar and map.
Yard waste pickup will not resume this week. The City is in discussions with Republic to identify alternate weeks for pickup, and we will share more information when it is available.
Residents with overflow trash caused by last week’s work stoppage may visit the City’s website for information on how to dispose of extra bags. We will update this information regularly, so please check back daily for the latest information.
For the recycling center, all it takes is one person to open the gates, stay 1/2 a day, then a second person to be there the last 1/2 and close the gates. I know that there is usually a volunteer Richie who is also often there.
Let me know if you need my help.
You seriously want disabled and elderly residents to take their trash that has not been picked up to 128 Waltham Street????
Do better City of Watertown
Respectfully, who do you expect to pick up trash? Until this strike is resolved, or when non union workers make it to your street, there isn’t much that can be done.DPW doesn’t have the resources to pick up from every street. I understand this is frustrating, my trash is piling up too, but there aren’t many options.
