Watertown will be one of five communities on the I-90 Corridor studied by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to see which areas of town are the best fit for new homes and jobs, and which are best preserved. A feedback session will be held on July 31 in City Hall. See more in the information provided by MAPC.
I-90 Corridor Development and Resiliency Plan: Mapping Feedback Session
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), is working with five communities along the I-90 corridor, including Watertown, Wellesley, Natick, Framingham, and Ashland to determine priority areas of regional significance.
Which areas would be good for more homes and jobs? Which areas would benefit from more nature or should be preserved?
The planning process builds on community-driven strategies and regional goals to inform future development and conservation decisions. Key objectives include:
- Supporting vibrant, transit-accessible neighborhoods and commercial hubs
- Preserving critical open space and cultural landscapes
- Preparing communities for the impacts of climate change
This plan is modeled after successful regional efforts like the South Coast Rail Corridor Plan and the 495/MetroWest Development Compact, and is being developed in collaboration with the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED), the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA), MassDOT, and other partners.
MAPC will be hosting an interactive mapping session that will allow participants to provide feedback on the draft priority areas.
