Cunniff third grade teacher Erin Hallisey and Maureen Murphy, a special education teacher at the Lowell, are running the 2026 Boston Marathon. Erin is raising money for the Boston Public Library, while Murphy is raising money for the Newton Firefighters Children’s Fund and they will be hosting a fundraising event in March.
“John Brewers has graciously offered to host a fundraiser event for us. Twenty percent of any dine-in/take out orders made between 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on March 12 with proceeds be donated to both organizations!” Murphy said.
Hallisey and Murphy provided the following information about the organizations:
The Boston Public Library Fund provides financial support to keep the BPL “free to all.” Thanks to the fund, the BPL Fund allows Watertown Residents to access resources through statewide programs. The Boston Public Library is part of the Mass. library network, which allows access to resources. The BPL helps preserve and share local community histories like Watertown’s.
The Newton Firefighter’s Children’s Fund serves communities across the Commonwealth, including Watertown. The NFDCF was established over 25 years ago after the loss of three Newton Fire Department members. The mission was to provide financial support to the children of these members. In 2012, the NFD expanded it’s mission to support families of fallen firefighters from across the entire Commonwealth. The mission continues today and affirms that these families remain an integral part of the fire service community. Providing financial support to the children of fallen firefighters is a lasting symbol of remembrance and care.
John Brewer’s Tavern is located at 39 Main St. in Waltham near the Watertown line.
