Police Log: Man Arrested for Causing Disturbance at Restaurant, Police Locate Man Wanted on 3 Warrants

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Feb. 16: An officer spotted a vehicle traveling at 45 mph in a 30 zone on Common Street. The vehicle then made a right on a red at a no turn on red intersection. Officer Colton Bailey pulled the vehicle over and discovered the driver had a warrant for driving on a suspended license — a subsequent offense. David Lewis, 58 of Boston, was arrested on the warrant as well as charges of driving with a suspended license, and was cited for a red light violation, marked lanes violation, and speeding.

Feb. 16: A package was taken off the porch of a building on Winter Street. It contained $350 in merchandise: two appliances and a gift card from Walgreens.

Feb. 17: A basketball hoop with a fixed rebound attachment was dumped on the side of Waltham Street.

Feb. 17: Household furniture was left in a dumpster on Orchard Street.

Feb. 17: A vehicle that had been reported stolen was recovered at Toyota of Watertown. A Boston woman had rented the vehicle and her son took the car. She texted him that it wasn’t her car and it needs to be returned to Toyota of Watertown. The vehicle was left at the dealership. The case is being handled by Boston Police.

Feb. 17: A Fayette Street resident heard a noise at her front door and when she went to look she found eggs had been thrown at her door and on her car.

Feb. 17: Police received a report of a customer causing a disturbance at City Works. The man reportedly threw food at the manager, was acting erratically, and was being aggressive toward staff. Officer Franke Forde and other officers responded. When they arrived the man was shouting loudly at patrons and police. When officers tried to take him into custody he began struggling. Police were able to subdue him and place him under arrest. Geoffrey Dawson, 41 of Wellesley, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

Feb. 18: A juvenile female from Waltham took $143 in merchandise from Target. She was turned over to her mother.

Feb. 19: A male juvenile from Boston took a $36 PlayStation wireless controller from Best Buy. No charges were filed, and he was turned over to his parents.

Feb. 19: A man took $40 in merchandise from Target.

Feb. 19: Watertown Police located a man wanted on three warrants. The man was taken into custody by Det. Sgt. Mark Lewis and Frank Forde. Police found the suspect had pills for which he didn’t have a prescription. While he was in the holding cell at the Police Station the man damaged the sink. Nareg Ostayan, 28 of Watertown, was arrested for the warrants: the first for threatening to commit a crime, disorderly conduct, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police office, and resisting arrest; the second for malicious destruction of a motor vehicle; and the third for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of assault and battery on a person over 60. He was also charged with possession of a Class C drug, resisting arrest, and vandalizing property.

Feb. 20: A Desmond Avenue resident received a letter saying that an unemployment application was successful, but the resident never made an application.

Feb. 20: A resident received a pop up on the cell phone which said she owed $400 and had a number to call. She called and spoke to someone who said they were from Apple support. The resident was asked to download an app so they could speak. She was advised to send $1,000 on the Zelle app. She realized it was a scam and contacted police, who are trying to assist her.

Feb. 20: Two tires were punctured on a vehicle parked at a home on Common Street.

Feb. 21: A group of juveniles took $11 in merchandise from CVS.

Feb. 22: Target reported a man came in and took $153 worth of merchandise.
