Police Log: Firefighter’s Equipment Stolen, Man Crashes Festival

June 8, 2:18 p.m.: Home Depot reported two men had come into the store and each had taken a cordless drill worth $260 and left the store. Security followed the men who were heading east on Arsenal Street toward Brighton. Police caught one of the men on the Arsenal Street Bridge. The other one was last seen running into a wooded area off Greenough Boulevard.

Free Film Showing Features Author Speaking About ‘The End of America’

A film documenting a speech made by a best-selling author in which makes the case that the U.S. government has eroded Americans’ Constitutional rights will be shown in Watertown. The Boston 911 Truth organization sent out the following announcement:

See How Watertown’s Relay Team Ran at the National Track Meet

A foursome of Watertown High School track athletes traveled to North Carolina to compete against the best prep track athletes in the nation. The girls’ 4 x 800 meter relay team of senior Tina Touri, freshmen Elizabeth Powderly and Emily Koufos and junior Katherine Tolman ran in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday. The team ran a time of 9:52.44, and finished 38th in the Emerging Elite competition, according to FlashResults.com. The tope team, Saline, Mich., ran a time of 9:19.06

The team qualified enjoyed some success this year. The foursome qualified for Nationals by running a 9:39.48 at the MTSCA Girls Coaches Invitational, and set a new Watertown High School record.

Local Foundation Awards Grant to Help Music in Watertown Schools

The Watertown Community Foundation awarded a grant to help the music program in the Watertown Public Schools. The Friends of Watertown Music announced this week that they were awarded one of the Watertown Community Foundation’s 2015 Educational Program Grants. “Our $2,250 grant will be used to purchase musical instruments and repair existing instruments so that more children will be able to participate in the excellent instrument program which is offered for free to all students in Watertown’s public schools, starting in fourth grade,” the Friends said in an announcement. Police Arrest Watertown Man Twice in Two Days

A man got in trouble with Watertown Police two days in a row last week. 

The suspect, identified as John Kerrigan, 32, first got into hot water on June 11 when a neighbor on Phillips Street caught the Watertown man on a security camera, said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. “A woman stated she had ongoing problems with a neighbor and she put up a security camera on her apartment door,” Lawn said. “She came home and found the security camera had been removed and smashed. When she checked the video she observed Kerrigan remove the camera.” Police located Kerrigan at Dunkin Donuts on Mt.

Police Teaming With Rec Department for Movie Nights, Street Hockey

The Watertown Police Department will work with the Recreation Department to put on some fun activities for youngsters and families this summer. 

Two free family movie nights will be held behind the Watertown Police Station. Aimed at elementary school students and their families, the events will be held on Friday, July 17 and Sunday, Aug. 9 from 6:30-10 p.m.

The evening begins with games, face painting, pizza, popcorn and refreshments. The movie begins at 8 p.m.

Parking is available in front of the Police Station. Cops & Rec Street Hockey
On Sundays beginning in July, the police and Recreation Department will host street hockey for girls and boys in grades 2 to 12.
