Watertown Wins High Scoring Home Football Opener

Watertown High School’s football team turned around a halftime deficit and defeated Arlington Catholic in the opener at Victory Field Friday night. Watertown scored first, after intercepting the Cougars in the first quarter. But by halftime the Raiders trailed 21-12. The second half was a different story, as the Raiders scored 26 points and pulled out a 38-35 victory. Next week, Watertown heads out of state to play Mt.

Watertown Field Hockey Nets Win After Close First Half

The Raiders got a bit of a scare from Winchester Friday afternoon when they kept the field hockey team scoreless in the first half of the home opener, but Watertown pulled away in the second half. 

After putting constant pressure on the Winchester goal Watertown’s Kourtney Kennedy got one past Paige Ross about seven minutes into the second half. Kennedy struck on a penalty stroke after she was pulled down in front of the net. Michaela Antonellis made it 3-0 Raiders and Aurora Fidler tapped one in the final goal for Watertown in the 4-0 win. The Raiders kept a variety of streaks alive, including 140 straight unbeaten, 80 straight wins and 27 straight shutouts.

Watertown Field Hockey Team Gets Off to Strong Start

The Raiders started their effort to get a seventh straight state title and to set a record winning streak by defeating Arlington in the season opener. Watertown won 6-0 at Arlington, with senior Kourtney Kennedy scoring four, according to the Boston Globe report. Sophomore goalie Jonna Kennedy got the shutout in her first start. The Raiders have not lost in 139 games, and they also have a streak of 26 straight shutouts, dating back to the state semifinal in 2013, Wicked Local Watertown reported. The field hockey team returns home Friday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. against Winchester.

Watertown High School’s boys’ and girls’ school cross country teams are getting ready to start their seasons this week. Both teams will have a scrimmage this week, and then start the competitions that count with a home meet on Sept. 16 against Winchester. Generally, the boys and girls compete at the same meets, with different starting times. Home meets are held at Arsenal Park – 145 Talcott Ave.

Watertown High School’s girls’ volleyball team begins the season at Arlington this Wednesday, and comes back for their first home match against Winchester on Friday. See the Schedule for Watertown Field Hockey’s Potentially Historic Season

The Watertown High School field hockey team is preparing to defend yet another state championship, but this year the team could make history by setting the nation’s longest undefeated streak of all time. The Raiders, under the guidance of Head Coach Eileen Donahue, have won six straight MIAA Div. 2 state championships, and have not lost once, and have only a few ties. Watertown’s streak stands at 138 straight undefeated, and the national record of 153 is held by Voorhees Eastern High School in New Jersey. So, Watertown needs 15 wins and/or ties to tie the record and 16 to set the new one.

Watertown High School Boys’ Soccer Schedule for 2015

The Watertown Raiders boys’ soccer team embark on another season, with hopes of another run in the State Tournament.
