Watertown Takes on an Improved Belmont on Thanksgiving – Follow it Live!

Watertown has dominated the annual Thanksgiving Game with Belmont recently, winning the last three years, but the Marauders could be a more challenging opponent this year. Last year, the Raiders thrashed Belmont 34-13 on their home turf. Watertown finished an impressive 9-2, while the Marauders finished just 3-8. The 2015 edition of the rivalry (Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at Watertown’s Victory Field) features a Watertown team that comes in 6-4, while Belmont has gone 4-6 this year. The Raiders’ record includes two playoff wins, while the Marauders collected a couple wins in the non-playoff rounds.

Field Hockey Team Does Not Seek the Limelight, Continues a Tradition

Along with the cheers of joy during the Watertown High School field hockey team’s championship celebration on Saturday, there was also some sighs of relief. After beating Auburn in Worcester, both Head Coach Eileen Donahue and senior co-captain Michaela Antonellis mentioned they were so happy after “all they had gone through this year.” One reporter, who had not followed the Raiders so closely, wondered if some tragedy or off the field difficulty had befallen the team. No, it was just a season in the spotlight – setting a national record for longest unbeaten streak and winning another state title. Donahue said neither she nor her players like to be the focus of media attention.

WORCESTER – The Watertown field hockey team survived an early onslaught by Auburn and pulled away to win the MIAA Div. 2 State Championship 6-0 on Saturday at WPI. Watertown Field Hockey Plays in the State Final at 11 a.m. Saturday – Follow Live!

On Saturday at 11 a.m., Watertown High School seeks to complete an seven-peat – seven straight state titles when they play Auburn in a battle of undefeated teams in the State Final. The late November date with Auburn at WPI is becoming a tradition. This is the third straight year the teams will play in the MIAA Div. 2 Field Hockey State Final. Watertown, of course, won the last two meetings.

Watertown Field Hockey Blows Past Hanover to Reach State Final

Led by two goals from senior co-captain Ally McCall, the Watertown field hockey team is headed back to Worcester for an eighth straight state final after beating Hanover Tuesday night. The Raiders (21-0) struggled to find the back of the net in the first half of the state semifinal played on a frigid night at Canton High School. Hanover came in undefeated at 19-0-3 and posed a tough opponent, said Watertown Head Coach Eileen Donahue. “This was a tough game. it was a very physical type of game,” Donahue said.

The 10th annual Donohue’s Bar and Grill Turkey Trot is coming up on Thanksgiving, and registration is now open. The 5K run and walk will be held on Thursday, Nov. 26 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Donohue’s Bar and Grill, 87 Bigelow Ave. in Watertown. Watertown, Belmont Youth Cheerleaders Excel at Recent Competition

Young cheerleaders from Watertown and Belmont had strong showings at a cheerleading competition in Medford. Watertown-Belmont Youth Cheerleading (W/B AYF) competed at Medford High School on Saturday, Nov. 7. Both teams came in second place in the competition – the freshman (third/fourth graders) and the JV team (fifth/sixth graders). The flag team (first/second graders) also had a great performance, said Jennifer Ryan, who along with Samantha England, coaches of the WB AYF and the Watertown High School cheerleaders.

Watertown Field Hockey Team Claims Another Section Title

On a day where the wind chill dipped temperatures into the 30s and snowflakes could be seen, the Watertown High School field hockey team came out red hot – defeating Manchester-Essex 4-0 for the MIAA Div. 2 North Section championship. The matchup was billed as a tough one for the seven-time defending state champs – and a threat to the team’s record unbeaten streak. The Hornets (17-2-2) came off wins of 5-0 and 3-1 behind the goal scoring of Robert Carter (yes, a boy on the girls’ field hockey team). Just four minutes into the game at North Andover High School, however, Watertown sophomore Sydney Poulin jumped on a ball that popped in the air, and batted it down into the Manchester-Essex net.
