Watertown Has 15 Middlesex League All-Stars and 4 MVPs This Winter

Watertown High School’s athletic teams had a strong winter season, which resulted in 15 athletes named to the Middlesex League All-Stars and four named Most Valuable Player for their sport. The 2018 Winter All-Stars:

Girls Hockey: Jonna Kennedy (MVP), Olivia Lampasona, Sydney Poulin

Boys Swimming: Christopher Kerrigan, Kian Rice

Girls Basketball: Cali McMahon

Boys Basketball: Julio Fulcar, John Korte (MVP). Girls Track: Gabriella Cacia, Emily Koufos (MVP), Rose Muldrew, Abigael Peterson, Elizabeth Powderly. Boys Track: Mange Camara (MVP), Nathan Follett, Ben Landry

Boston Bruins Mascot Makes Pre-Playoffs Visit to Watertown Tire Store

The Boston Bruins will start their quest for the Stanley Cup tonight against Toronto, but this week the Bruins’ mascot Blades paid a visit to a Watertown tire store. To celebrate the Boston Bruins’ road to the Stanley Cup, Sullivan Tire & Auto Service invited the official Bruins mascot, Blades, to their Watertown location for a meet and greet celebration on Tuesday, April 10, according to Sullivan Tires. Blades chatted with employees, waved hello to customers passing through and even went into the service garage to learn some tips from Sullivan Tire technicians. About Sullivan Tire and Auto Service

Watertown Youth Lacrosse Comes Full Circle After 10 Years With Original Players Now Coaching

When the organizers of Watertown Youth Lacrosse formed the league in 2018 there were many naysayers who doubted that another sport could not only get a toe hold, but thrive in town. This year, the group will marks its 10 year anniversary and among the success stories is having to former players come back to coach budding Watertown lacrosse players. One of the original organizers, Jay Hughes, recalled that the group formed with “no money, no clue and not knowing the difference between a long pole and a fishing pole.” “We were told that Watertown was too small to have baseball and Lacrosse and we shouldn’t do it,” Hughes said. “We were warned that the biggest obstacles would be in order: 1) Fields, 2) Kids, 3) Coaches.”

Watertown Ice Hockey Goalie Playing in Shriners All Star Hockey Game

Watertown High School’s Jonna Kennedy will be playing in the Shriners All Star Hockey game for the second year in a row. 

The goalie for the Raiders’ girls hockey team will be playing in the game at Canton Ice House at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018. The High School All-Star Hockey game is sponsored by the Shriners and Mass High School Hockey Coaches Association. The game features the best high school senior boy and girls from Massachusetts. All proceeds benefit Shriners Hospital for Children. Kennedy has been the starting goalie for the Watertown High School ice hockey team since she was in eighth grade.

Oakley Country Club Hosting PGA Jr. League for Young Golfers

Young girls and boys who want to learn about and to play golf can sign up for PGA Jr. League at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, and dozens of other courses around the Boston area. The PGA Jr. League sent out the following announcement:

PGA and LPGA Professionals in the Boston area are offering PGA Jr. League,
a game-changing way for kids to learn and play golf. The program brings friends and family together around fun, team golf experiences with expert coaching and instruction from PGA and LPGA Professionals. Boys and girls of all background and skill levels learn and play together in a supportive, two-person scramble format that encourages mentorship, builds confidence, and promotes sportsmanship. PGA Jr. League is primarily for boys and girls ages 13 and under, though some facilities offer 16-and- under programs (included in the online program description).
