Watertown Student Artwork on Display at the Watertown Mall

Come see how creative Watertown students of all ages can be during the annual Watertown Public Schools Student Art Exhibit. 

The Watertown Mall, 550 Arsenal St., is hosting the art exhibit from April 10-28. Enjoy hundreds of fine art pieces crafted by Watertown students in kindergarten through grade 12. You will be amazed at the breadth and depth of artistic talent on display. Mediums showcased include, but are not limited to: watercolor, crayon, cray pas, pencil, photography, computer art, 3D, ceramics, and paper machè. This event is free to the general public!

Several Watertown High School Artists Honored in State Competition

Several Watertown High School student artists received awards in a competition that honors the best high school artists in Massachusetts. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards announced the 2015 awards. In 2014, the program received more than 250,000 submissions. A ceremony for Massachusetts’ award winners was held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on Saturday, March 7. Watertown’s winners were:

Julia Harrington – Silver Key for drawing
Liana Aleksanyan – Silver Key for drawing and honorable mention for painting
Emily Hart – honorable mention for painting
Katie Eaton – Gold Key for design
Melanie Halibian – Silver Key for design
Emerson O’Connor – Silver Key for design
Christopher Patvakanian – honorable mention for digital art
Erika Libertini – honorable mention for digital art

Students Bring Watertown Square Wall to Life With New Mural

A wall that until recently had graffiti on it now has a new coat of paint – one which captures the fabric of the Watertown community. The mural project is the second collaboration between Roxbury artist Gregg Bernstein and students from Watertown High School’s art program. Last year, students put up a mural on the wall along the Community Path between Whites and Waverley avenues (see more here). The project is different in many ways from the one painted last year. Last year, the mural mural was on a quiet path and focused on places and life around Watertown.
