LETTER: Thank a Nurse During National Nurses Week 2015

As a registered nurse with 57 years of experience, I want to let readers know that May 6th through the 12th is National Nurses Week 2015. During this week, national celebrations are occurring to thank nursing professionals for their tireless efforts in caring for patients in all clinical areas. In fact, On Wednesday May 6 nurses will gather at Fenway Park and be honored in a pregame ceremony. Massachusetts’ 120,000 plus active registered nurses compassionately provide excellent health care to all the citizens of our Commonwealth. The vital contributions of nurses is paramount to the success of our health care system in improving lives of Americans.

LETTER: Neighbors Have Requests for Proposed Athenahealth Project

Re: AthenaHealth LLC and Arsenal on the Charles

We appreciate the Town Council’s delay on the vote for AthenaHealth’s proposal for changes to the AODD. We are assuming they have realized, like we have, that we need more details from them in order to make an informed decision. Any changes to the AODD should be considered with the future in mind: how will these changes affect Watertown’s ability to control what happens on that property while AthenaHealth owns it, as well as after they have gone. We hope AthenaHealth stays for the long term and works with the town in good faith, but businesses come and go, so we shouldn’t give away our rights to some determination on that property. To this end, we are asking the Town Council and relevant town departments to do the following:

LETTER: Town Officials Out of Sync With Constituents on Development

I write in response to Councilor Piccirilli’s recent statements in which he warns that the moratorium on development in the Arsenal Corridor could impact town and school budgets. Indeed the Councillor is one of many who plan on funding new priorities with revenues generated by new development. On its face, this appears to be a good strategy, but it is not a justification to rush ahead and make bad concessions that will affect generations to come. The town has already suffered a good deal of bad real estate development. I support the moratorium, but only with reservations.
