WEEKEND FUN: Classic Cars, Crafting, Meditation, Classic Radio Play & Cribbage

You can start this beautiful summer weekend with a contemplative sound healing meditation on Friday evening at Mount Auburn Cemetery. It’s going to be cooler, though rain could interfere in that plan. If so, you might go instead to catch an entertaining radio mystery at the Mosesian that evening or on Saturday night. They promise hijinks and cocktails, a delicious combination! As a person who loves to share resources in our Facebook Buy Nothing group, the arts and crafts swap on Saturday afternoon at the library is a draw.

WEEKEND FUN: ABBA Spectacle, Yoga, Plant Swap, Album Release, Italian Dinner

Your weekend might kick off on Friday evening with a lively show at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, called Gimme Gimme. It is described as a sapphic ABBA disco spectacle, including burlesque, drag and aerial performances. Wake up on Saturday, have a relaxing morning and then head over to Artemis Yoga if you have a handy young person to do yoga play with. Their family yoga hour looks quite fun. Once well stretched out, check out the plant and seed swap on the library patio.

WEEKEND FUN: Jane Austen Garden Party, Superman, Art Reception, New Look Park, Craft Night

Arsenal Park

Let’s all go to Arsenal Park this weekend, or at least sometime soon to discover the newly renovated facilities. It provides residents of Watertown with a wonderful outdoor area for summer activities. I might even join the kids in the splash park on a hot day! But to start the weekend, on Friday evening the Hatch Maker Space has an LGBTQ+ drop-in time. It’s open for teens and adults. Saturday evening you could get your thrills watching the new Superman staring David Corenswet at the Majestic 7.

Weekend Fun: Bike Event Canceled, Watertown Pride, Yoga, Homebrewers & Martial Arts

UPDATE: City officials announced the Get Out Your Bike event has been canceled due to the forecast rain on Saturday. Let’s start the weekend at the Get Out Your Bike Event at the dock on the Charles River on Saturday morning. If you haven’t gotten out your bike yet, now is the time. You can have it checked for free or learn about Blue Bikes if you don’t have your own. In the afternoon you can exercise further with a Family Yoga class at Artemis Yoga.

WEEKEND FUN: Mother’s Day Brunch, Children’s Theatre, Film on Greek Singer, Medicinal Plant Walk, Eco Fest

May flowers may have been brought by April showers, but there do seem to be plenty of May showers around as well. This weekend there are fun activities to accommodate both flowers and rain. You can start Friday evening with a unique film about a famous Greek musician, Stelios Kazantzidis at the Majestic 7. There is a Watertown Children’s Theater production of Hadestown with their high school aged actors on the weekend evenings or Saturday and Sunday matinees. On Saturday there is the first Watertown Eco Fest at the Commander’s Mansion that will be educational and fun.

WEEKEND FUN: Mt. Auburn Cemetery Walking Tour, Pottery Sale, Art Exhibit Opening

“Self-Portrait as a Lion,” will be part of the Armenian Museum of America’s exhibit of the art of Varujan Boghosian. It’s the last weekend in April, and the earlier showers have brought out plenty of flowers already. I don’t have any Friday events, so simply hit the local streets to smell the flowers, view the YardArt and stretch your legs. All day Saturday there is a pottery sale at Indigo Fire Pottery Studio. They have a special discount on Intelligentsia coffee if you buy a vessel to put it in.

WEEKEND FUN: Arshile Gorky Movie, Snow White PJ Party, Playoff Hockey, Middle School Musical

This weekend has something for fans of musicals, Disney, hockey, art, and people who want to get creative. Friday afternoon, Hatch Makerspace is open for people who want to try their hands at vinyl cutting, 3D design and more. Young actors at Watertown Middle School will go on stage three times with a musical version of Mary Poppins. On Saturday night, Watertown’s semipro hockey team will try to clinch the championship. Learn about Armenian artist and former resident Arshile Gorky on Friday night.
