Voters head to the polls on Tuesday for the state primary election featuring statewide races for governor, Lt. Governor and more, as well as some candidates from Watertown.
Democrats will have a number of contested races to vote in. Watertown’s state house delegation – State Sen. Will Brownsberger and State Reps. Jonathan Hecht and John Lawn – are running uncontested.
Republicans have candidates in about half the races, but only one is contested for the primary. Charlie Baker of Swampscott faces Mark R. Fisher of Shrewsbury in the GOP’s race for governor.
Watertown does have a couple candidates facing challenges in their elections.
Former State Senator and State Representative Warren Tolman seeks the Democratic nomination for Attorney General. He faces Maura Healey, Former Assistant Attorney General from Boston. (See a debate conducted by NECN by clicking here.) John B. Miller of Winchester is running unopposed on the Republican side.
In the race for Third District Councillor, also known as Governor’s Councillor, Watertown’s Marilyn Petitto Devaney seeks re-election. She faces former Newton Alderman Charlie Shapiro. (See a debate conducted by Arlington Community Media by clicking here.) There are no Republican candidates.
Petitto Devaney was backed by six of her colleagues on the Governor’s Council in this letter to WickedLocal.com. Shapiro has the backing of one of the Governor’s Councillors along with Watertown State Rep. John Lawn. He had his own letter on WickedLocal.com.
