A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 9 AM in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown for Joseph Patrick McHugh.

Mr. McHugh, a son of the late Patrick and Nora (Holland) McHugh was a life-long resident of Watertown. Joseph passed away in the Tufts Medical Center, Boston on Thursday April 30, 2015 after a brief illness. He was 86.

He enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage with his soul mate and best friend Margaret “Peg” (Sweeny) McHugh of Cambridge. Joe enjoyed his many years of education at St. Patrick’s School in Watertown. Joe honorably served his country in the Korean War as an MP. As a graduate of Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, he dedicated many years to public service for the town of Watertown. He was also a professional land surveyor. Upon retirement as town engineer, he enjoyed his time at Fay Spofford & Thorndike. He cherished his time with his family at their summer cottage in Hampton Beach, NH.

He is the beloved husband for 61 years to Margaret J. “Peg” (Sweeney) McHugh. Devoted father of Ann Miller & her husband David of Waltham, Carol A. Boulanger & her husband Richard of Grafton, Joseph P. McHugh, Jr. & his wife Drema of NC, John E. McHugh & his wife Karon of NJ, Donna J. Dike & her husband Donald of Leominster, Steven R. McHugh & his wife Franca of Wilmington and the late James F. McHugh.

Dear brother of the late Eileen Cahill. Loving grandfather of Elisabeth Boulanger, Keith Miller, Jeffrey & Hannah Dike, Patrick & Michael McHugh, Steven & Emily McHugh.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. in Watertown on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 8 AM followed by Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown at 9 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.

Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM
