The Tufts Health Plan Foundation is accepting Letters of Intent for its Policy and Advocacy cycle of community investments.
The deadline for applications is Monday, July 20, 2015 at 4 p.m. Upon review, select applicants will be invited to submit full proposals by Monday, September 21, 2015. If awarded, grants will run from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2016.
To build healthy and age-friendly communities, engaging in policy and advocacy are essential strategies. The Foundation is looking for ideas that will move communities toward a comprehensive approach to community development that includes “domains” or arenas reflected in the WHO model for creating age-friendly communities. This may include supporting efforts that champion communities as they improve the quality of life for all citizens across the lifespan.
Proposals for policy and advocacy should be collaborative and involve participants from all sectors of the community. Work should include:
Community/civic engagement of diverse stakeholders in communities to mobilize and affect change; Participation among key stakeholders, including the voice of older adults, to support planning, policy and advocacy initiatives; and Expanded access to programs and services as well as system change/improvement.
The Foundation prioritizes activities in areas of Massachusetts and Rhode Island which are underserved and/or whose populations are at risk economically and socially.
The Foundation will also accept applications for its Foundation President’s Leadership Fund, which is designed to support community leaders in their work with multiple stakeholders toward a common community goal. This work could include current or new activities that directly or indirectly lead to age-friendly communities and address barriers to success in the most vulnerable communities. The Foundation will consider the intersection between policy and practice as well as collaborative community work in the built environment, transportation, housing, social and civic participation and inclusion, employment, communication and information, and community support and health services.
