Police Log: Man Assaults Police Officers, String of Bicycle Thefts

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Arrests

Aug. 20, 7:46 p.m.: Security at the Stop & Shop on Watertown Street spotted a man they recognized as a past shoplifter. They saw him take some packages of razors and beauty products from the health and beauty area of the store worth a total of $337.87. The 48-year-old homeless man was arrested on charges of larceny over $250.

Aug. 21, 9:06 a.m.: Police responded the Arenal Project for an argument between a man and woman. When an officer stepped in, the man began arguing with the officer. When police tried to place him under arrest the man pushed the officers. The 21-year-old Cambridge man was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Aug. 21, 2:48 p.m.: Police responded to a motor vehicle accident near Metro Mini Mart on Main Street and when officers spoke to one of the driver they detected an odor of alcohol on his breath. Field sobriety tests were performed. The 64-year-old Waltham man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a second offense.

Aug. 22, 4:18 p.m.: Target security spotted two women stuffing items into plastic Target bags. They loaded up four carriages and tried to leave the store. The two women were stopped. A 24-year-old Concord woman and a 23-year-old Lowell woman were arrested and each were charged with larceny over $250.

Incidents

Aug. 19, 11:07 a.m.:  The owner of a 2014 Chrysler reported that the car’s hood had been keyed on July 28. The owner said his ex-girlfriend had scratched the car, and she agreed to pay for the damages.

Aug. 19, 7:27 p.m.: A man locked up his bike to a wooden railing on his porch. The next morning he found someone broke the wooden spindle and took the bicycle, described as a red, 24-speed GT Avalon mountain bike.

Aug. 20, 7:49 a.m.: A shoplifter was spotted placing items in a bag and tried to leave the Russo’s without paying. The 53-year-old Watertown woman was trespassed from the store.

Aug. 20, 4:05 p.m.: A bicycle left unlocked in front of a home on Robert Ford Road was taken. It was described as a blue 26-inch Huffy bike.

Aug. 21, 11:14 a.m.: A Mt. Auburn Street resident reported that the glass on the upper part of a storm door was broken on Aug. 12.

Aug. 21, 12:37 p.m.: A vehicle was scratched while parked on Philip Darch Road. It occurred sometime since July 14.

Aug. 21, 2:41 p.m.: Watertown Ford reported that someone came onto the lot sometime overnight and took the front and rear bumpers, the running boards, the grill and the F-350 nameplates from a pickup truck.

Aug. 22, 4:52 p.m.: A bicycle was stolen from an open garage on Whitney Street. The bike was described as a blue 18-speed Cannondale 25-inch bike.

Aug. 23, 11:58 a.m.: A bicycle was stolen from Chester Street off a front porch. The bike was a Diadora hybrid mountain bike.
