A Funeral Mass for Ellen C. “Eileen” (Cooney) Griffin will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 12 in Our Lady Help of Christian Church, Newton at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Griffin, a daughter of the late Timothy and Julia (Keohane) Cooney. She was born in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. She moved to the United States at 19 years old. She passed away in the St. Elizabeth Hospital, Brighton on Friday afternoon after a brief illness. She was 87.

Beloved wife of Arthur Griffin. Devoted mother of Ellen M. Davis and her husband Charlie of Fort Worth, Texas, Patricia Griffin-Silva and her husband Victor Silva of Arlington, John K. Griffin and his wife Elaine of Arlington, Arthur T. Griffin of Boston, and Sheila A. Griffin of Watertown. Loving grandmother of nine grandchildren. Dear sibling of five sisters and six brothers.

Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown on Tuesday Jan. 12, 2016 at 9:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christian Church, 573 Washington St., Newton at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Visiting hours Monday 3-7 p.m. Interment will be St. Patrick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry, 26R Chestnut St., Watertown, MA 02472.
