Watertown Police arrested a Brighton man who allegedly shoved an officer and tried to run away after he appeared to be passed out from taking drugs.

On March 7 at 7:03 p.m. an officer went into the bathroom near the food court in the Arsenal Mall, where a man was passed out and appeared to have blood on his face, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor.

“The officer asked if the man needed medical assistance. The man shoved the officer to the ground, and ran out of the bathroom,” O’Connor said. “The officer observed that the arrestee had likely ingested narcotics.”

The suspect ran through the mall, out the entrance near Old Navy and ran into traffic on Arsenal Street to get to the other side.

“The officer was able to subdue him in the parking lot of the Watertown Mall,” O’Connor said.

Daniel Michael Mariano, 28, of Brighton, was arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and possession of a Class A drug, O’Connor said.
