New Repertory Theatre’s latest production, “Blackberry Winter” takes on the difficult subject of a parent facing Alzheimer’s Disease, and the play at the Arsenal Center for the Arts has garnered rave reviews.

Adrianne Krstansky stars as Vivienne, who must face the news inside the little white envelope. “With the aid of a creation myth of her own imagination and her insomnia-driven baking, apprehension takes hold as she comes to terms with her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis,” according to New Rep’s announcement.

The play is written by Steve Yokey, and directed by Bridget Kathleen O’Leary.

Krstansky has earned much praise for her latest role.

The Boston Globe said:

“The unshowy virtuosity of Boston actress Adrianne Krstansky makes an evening in her company something to look forward to.”

WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen raves:

“This is a great one. [Blackberry Winter] stars Adrianne Krstansky, who I think is just one of the great actresses of our time… There’s a lot of humor here, too: I really appreciated the way this play is written… This character, Vivienne, has created what she calls her ‘origin myth’… I thought it was an incredibly moving parable and it’s told beautifully.

And Broadway World wrote:

“Yockey’s play could not be in better hands than those of director Bridget Kathleen O’Leary… Krstansky gives a performance that is authentic and nuanced.”

The play opened at the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts on March 26 and runs through April 17.  Tickets are $30-$59 and may be purchased by calling the New Rep Box Office at 617-923-8487  or click here to purchase tickets online.
