Watertown High School Sign

The Watertown High School golf team may not have had its best season in terms of wins and losses, but the players still received statewide recognition.

Longtime WHS golf coach Jim Travers told the Boston Globe that this year’s golf team was one of his favorites. The 2016 golf team received the MIAA’s Sportsmanship Award for Div. 3 schools.

The team had a lot of newcomers because the Raiders lost so many players to graduation that they did not have enough experienced players to field a team for Middlesex League matches. The veterans went out of their way to welcome new players and show them the ropes.

This was Watertown’s first ever state tournament, and the Raiders finished the year with a record of 11-10, which included a tournament win over West Roxbury.
