WHS Sports: Girls Lacrosse Faces Medway, Softball Makes Tourney, Girls Tennis Players Post Wins in Tourney

The Watertown girls’ lacrosse team played a close first half but fell in their first round State Tournament game on Tuesday night. 

The game with Medway was tied at halftime, but in the second half Medway pulled away to win 10-4 in the MIAA Div. 2 East Section first round game at Victory Field.

The Raiders end the season with a record of 11-6.

Softball Team Makes State Tournament

After posting one of the best records in years, the Watertown High School softball team was seeded 1oth in the MIAA Div. 2 North tournament. The Raiders will travel to play seventh-seeded Arlington on Thursday, June 1 at 3:30 p.m.

Watertown finished the regular season with a record of 13-6. The Raiders played an independent schedule this year and most of the losses were by small margins. The winner of the first round game takes on the winner of second seeded Dracut and 15th seeded Reading in the quarterfinals.

Girls Tennis Players Compete in State Championships

In the first round, three Watertown players won their matches Rachel Aftandilian won her match with Cassia Burns of Tewksbury, 7-5, 7-6 (3); Lilian Marr beat Lauren Kiel from Dover Sherborn, 6-0, 6-3; and Michelle Aftandilian beat Saugus’ Aliviah Burke 6-2, 6-2.

In the second round Rachel Aftandilian lost 6-1, 6-2 to Arya Bhat, Burlington; Elisabeth Cooperman of Hopkinton defeated Michelle Aftandilian, 6-0,. 6-0; and in a rain interrupted match Marr fell to Arlington’s Meagan Carne, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
