Kayakers hit the Charles River Saturday thanks to a joint effort by the Watertown Recreation Department and Live Well Watertown.

Hit the waters of the Charles River during the Watertown Recreation Department’s free kayaking event on Saturday, June 17.

The event was a hit last year, and all the spots were filled.

The Recreation Department included the the following information: participants will pair up in a double kayak for a fun, leisurely, or active ride along the Charles River. Charles River Recreation will provide basic instruction and safety rules for all who participate. This program is open to new and experienced kayakers. Comfortable, layered clothing is recommended; wear shoes that can get wet. Refreshments will be served.

The event is open to all Watertown residents, and groups will go out from the Watertown Square Dock at four times through the day: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There will also be a group for people age 55+ at 10 a.m. You must arrive 30 minutes prior to departure time.

To register online, click here, select “Register for Activities,” go to “Adult” under “Select Activity,” and hit “Kayaking on the Charles.” Register in person the Recreation Office in Town Hall, 149 Main St., Watertown.
