The Watertown Recreation Department’s Pequossette Summer Program begins on June 27, and it still has spots available.
Children can sign up for one to eight weeks of the summer program, which runs through Aug. 18, and promotes “physical well being as well as a good sense of self-esteem,” said Pequossette Director Brian Donato in a letter about the summer camp.
“Our leadership team believes that a diverse schedule keeps the children engaged and encourages them to try and learn new things and make connections with peers. It is our goal to create a family atmosphere in which your child can grow, develop, and create long lasting friendships with peers and positive relationships with our staff,” Donato wrote.
Daily activities include arts and crafts, music and sports activities, plus there will be field trips and trips to the Dealtry Pool and Boys and Girls Club for swimming opportunities and visits from the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, and Rainforest Reptiles.
Due to construction at Watertown Middle School, this year the Pequossette Summer Program will be held at Hosmer Elementary School, 1 Concord Road, Watertown.
Former Director Bob Galante, who passed away in 2016, will be in the thoughts and hearts of the staff, campers and others associated with Camp Pequossette, Donato said.
“The tradition and example of leadership, selflessness, and commitment that Bob set for over 25 years serving the Watertown Community at large, will continue to guide us, teach us and inspire us in our commitment to provide a positive, exciting, and educational experience for all our campers and Pequossette families,” Donato wrote.
