The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold a special outdoor mass with a blessing of the backpacks.
The Mass on the Grass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 10 at the church, located at 19 Russell Ave. in Watertown. The service includes the Blessing of the Backpacks for students of ALL ages as well as teachers and professors. There will be a contemplative Eucharist at 8 a.m.

In the Episcopal Church, we believe that God gave us memory, reason, and skill in order to grow in wisdom and understanding in order to bless others. Academic pursuit is holy ground!
We invite everyone from kindergarteners to post-docs, as well as teachers and professors, to bring their backpacks (or another symbol of their scholarly pursuits) and be blessed for the year ahead, on Sunday, September 10th at our “Mass on the Grass.” This new tradition is a fun way to remember that God is with us in our classrooms and labs. Bring a friend (and their backpack!).
