A winning dancer from Dancing with the Stars will make a special appearance at a local dance studio to teach ballroom dancing.
On Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Tony Dovolani will be teaching a ballroom dance class at Fred Astaire studio in Cushing Square. The Belmont-based studio is owned by Watertown resident Elizabeth Woo.
Dovolani competed on the show for 21 season, and won in season 15 in 2012 with partner Melissa Rycroft, who was on The Bachelorette. He also finished third on two occasions, once while dancing with professional wrestler Stacy Keibler in season 2 (his first appearance on the show) and once in season eight, the first time he danced with Rycroft.
He also portrayed Slick Willy in the film Shall We Dance?, in which he coached Jennifer Lopez’s character.
Fred Astaire recently named Dovolani its National Dance Director. He will appear at the local studio, located at 448 Common St., Belmont, on Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $50 and space is limited.
