The 2018 MIAA Div. 3 boys basketball State Champions, Watertown High School

The Raiders will start the defense of their 2018 MIAA Div. 3 boys basketball State Championship on Monday at Watertown High School.

The Raiders boys and girls basketball teams will both be returning to the State Tournament in 2019, with the boys hosting a first round game.

The Watertown High School boys hoops team will defend its MIAA Div. 3 state championship starting on Monday night at home. The seventh seeded Raiders will host the No. 10 seed Weston at 7 p.m. in the WHS Gym in the Div. 3 North first round game.

Watertown finished the regular season with a record of 12-8. The winner of Monday’s first round game will take on the winner of No. 2 Pentucket and No. 15 Bedford. The top seed in Div. 3 North is St. Mary’s of Lynn.

Girls Basketball

After a year away from the tournament, the Raiders girls basketball team is back in the bracket. Watertown will travel to face Shawsheen on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the MIAA Div. 3 North first round game.

Watertown qualified, despite having an 8-12 record on the Sullivan Rule. This rule helps teams in Leagues with upper division teams if they have a .500 record against teams in their own division.

The winner of Wednesday’s game would face No. 4 seed St. Mary’s of Lynn. The top seed in the girls Div. 3 North tournament is Latin Academy.
