Town Manager Michael Driscoll announced the appointment of a Director of Administration and Finance for the Watertown Department of Public Works.
Jesse L. Myott has been named the new Director of Administration and Finance. The position had previously been held by Dennis Sheehan, who left Watertown to become Town Administrator for the Town of Stoneham.
Myott had been the Assistant Treasurer, Finance & Performance Analyst, and Recreation Department Manager for the Town of Brookline. In Brookline, some of his duties included town-wide cashflow management and reconciliation, operating and capital improvement budget development, customer valuation and cost of revenue analysis for town programs and services.
He also served as a Management Analyst for the City of Daly City, Calif. In that role, he oversaw state and federal infrastructure grants, public procurement, management and implementation of a web-based and smart phone apps for citizen service request systems. He also authored the city’s first climate action plan and served as the city’s intergovernmental liaison to multiple external agencies.
Myott has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Rhode Island, and a master’s degree in history from San Francisco State University, with personal interests while pursuing both degrees being monetary policy, fiscal policy, public policy and the economy. He also completed an Advanced Data Storytelling workshop at Boston University, which focuses on data literacy and statistical technical proficiency, and combines the two to be able to interpret and communicate vast amounts of data in an understandable narrative framework.
“With Mr. Myott’s experience and educational background, he will be able to greatly assist the Department of Public Works in all aspects of the overall operation of the department including budget presentation and management, billing and cash management, personnel matters, risk management, performance management, procurement, information technology and records management,” Driscoll said. “He will be the liaison to other departments and committees; and may serve as Acting Superintendent of Public Works when the Superintendent is not available.”
Among those who helped the search for the new DPW Director of Administration and Finance were DPW Superintendent Gerald Mee, Personnel Director Gayle Shattuck and Town Engineer Matthew Shuman.
