Detours will be set up for a week in Watertown around the repaving area on Common Street.

The works begins Wednesday, Aug. 7 and is scheduled to run until Wednesday, Aug. 14. The work will be taking place on Common Street and Katherine Road, near Watertown High School.

The Watertown Department of Public Works provided a map showing the upcoming road closures and detours.

Common Street will be completely closed from Columbia Street to past Orchard Street. It will be closed at Mt. Auburn Street heading toward Belmont Street, but will be open to local traffic from Spring Street toward Mt. Auburn Street.

Because Common Street will be closed, drivers trying to get to the streets east of Common Street will be directed up Russell Avenue to Bellevue Road which connects with Common Street, closer to Belmont Street.

Another detour is at the intersection of Church and Summer streets. Church will be closed to all but local traffic, so drivers will will be sent down Summer Street to Mt. Auburn Street.

Other streets closed to everything but local traffic are: Orchard Street from Common Street to Waverley Avenue, Spring Street, Barnard Avenue, Columbia Street, Robbins Road, the U section of Katherine Road west of Church Street and Middlesex Road. In addition, there are block-long sections of four streets between Spring and Church streets that will be only open to local traffic: Fayette Street, Palfrey Street, Marshall Street and Marion Road.
