Superintendent Dede Galdston announced the hiring of Dr. Ceronne Daly as the Watertown Public School’s Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Galdston announced the hiring to staff on Monday. Daly has worked in the Boston Public Schools for more than 10 years, most recently as the Managing Director of the Office of Recruitment, Cultivation, and Diversity Programs.

Daly will officially start working in October, but will be attending events starting this week, Galdston said in her statement. Daly succeeds Kimberlee Henry, who was the first Director of DEIB. The School Committee approved the creation of the position in 2020.

Superintendent Galdston’s Statement:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ceronne Daly as the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.  Thank you to the members of the Search Committee who recommended Dr. Daly as a finalist and gave their summer time to be part of the process.

Dr. Daly served in the Boston Public Schools for more than 10 years, serving in various roles.  Most recently she was the Managing Director of the Office of Recruitment, Cultivation, and Diversity Programs for BPS.

Throughout her career, she held positions in organizations in ways that “improve outcomes to support district leaders, school leaders, students, and families in achieving excellence.”  Throughout the interview process, it became clear that Watertown is fortunate to have in Dr. Daly a director with experience, compassion, vision, and a desire to have a meaningful impact on all students in our schools.

Dr. Daly will be joining us in October, but prior to that, she will attending key events such as the Restorative Justice Training on August 28 and August 31 and our Opening Day convening.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Daly into our strong community!

  2. A complete waster of taxpayer money…. Let’s call this position what it is… Director of Indoctrination for Cultural Marxism and Acceptance of Depraved Behavior.

    • Not a single fact or cogent argument to support this comment. The world grows more diverse and people seek to change accordingly. But there are always the ones who are simply afraid of human progress.

    • Oh dear. . .a Marxist hiding behind every rock and more depraved behavior than Sodom and Gomorrah.

The waste is the time taken to read the comment above. Hysterical ranting without any factual foundation and a complete waste of one’s time.

    • A waste it is. I would rather see the City hiring another police officer or DPW worker. Instead, we get an activist from Boston Public School where, as we know, everything is going well.

I see that DEI now adds “belonging”. How about adding symbiosis, collaboration, synergy, unity, harmony and alliance. Then we can refer to it as DEIBSCSUHA ++

        • With the truth I neither fear nor offend. And Watertown is very welcoming as it is, but some will never be satisfied. We understand.

    • Being naive is as big a problem as being scared. Both are a real problem. Your experience is not a universal one. That’s why we are where we are.

    • Precisely, Dennis. It always welcoming during my 28 years here, and still is. But DEIB, etc. is a big business which requires myths to be created and sustained. Those who support it will be “inclusive” only if you agree with their ideas. I do not.
