Watertown wrestlers grabbed first and second place finishes at the MIAA Div. 3 State Meet over the weekend.

Watertown junior Tessa Master won the girls 152 pound division, shutting out both of her opponents on the way to her first place finish in the meet at Wakefield High School. She won the final 6-0 over Grace Arena of Keefe Tech. She will move on to All-States on Feb. 23 and 24 at Salem High School.

In the boys 165 pound division, senior Tommy Dicker won three matches to reach the final. He lost to Lucas Alvan of Ludlow, but earned his spot at All-States.

Master and Dicker seek to become the first wrestlers from Watertown High School to move on to the New England Championships, said Watertown Head Coach Kevin Russo. The top seven in each weight class qualify for New Englands.

“Our goal for (Tessa) is to be an All-State champion,” Russo said. “Our goal for Tommy is to place top six or seven and make it to New Englands.”

Russo said both wrestlers have been preparing for the tournament, and he hopes that Dicker can have a great All-States Meet.

“(Tommy) is good enough that if he has a good day he could really surprise people. He works so hard,” Russo said. “They both woke up the morning after (States) and went to a clinic in Lowell to practice with other teams from the Merrimack Valley.”

New Englands will be held in Providence on March 1 and 2.
