When you ask Dr. Jason Mavor why he’s so passionate about being a chiropractor, his answer is simple. “Helping someone help themselves is the best feeling in the world.” His path to becoming a Chiropractor, however, was a little more unconventional. It all started with an injury of his own.
“I had hurt my lower back, so I did what everybody else used to do and went to my doctor for pain medication,” he recalled.
But the medication provided no relief. So he began investigating other avenues to manage the pain. “I kept driving by this chiropractor’s office and I thought ‘It can’t hurt to try,’ so I went in.”
After the first session, Mavor felt immense relief: “It was like I had no pain for the first time in years. It was a really extraordinary thing.” Already in the process of applying for medical school, he switched gears to pursue chiropractic study instead.
After completing his degree and becoming certified and licensed, he spent four years practicing in the state of California, before returning to the East Coast in 2012. It was then that he opened his own clinic in Watertown, a town he had no ties to at first, but now, he said, feels like home.
“You just become a part of the community,” he said. “You get to know the people and they get to know you. I just love this town.”
Mavor Chiropractic served the community from their Watertown Square clinic for 12 years until the building was sold at the beginning of 2024. Mavor was forced to relocate to Newton for several months — which, he said, “just wasn’t the same” — but officially returned to Watertown in October, 2024, to open a brand new clinic at 279 Mt. Auburn St., bringing his passion for wellness back to the community.
In his 16 years of practicing, Mavor has treated patients from all walks of life, from Olympic athletes to centenarians.
“I had a patient who was one hundred and two years old,” he said. “And even at a hundred and two she started to feel better, so there’s no end point to making physiologic changes.”
His treatment philosophy, he said, focuses on collaboration.
“I work closely with my patients to understand their goals and develop a plan to help them achieve them,” he said.
He also explained that listening plays an essential role in his work.
“I’ve got a body of expertise and experience and I’m good at what I do, but I don’t know my patients’ bodies like they do, so I rely on them to tell me what’s working or not working,” Mavor said.
This, he said, allows him to keep improving his treatment over time to help his patients get better.
While some chiropractors have been known to lean into alternative-style treatments, Mavor says he remains firmly focused on the science.
“I’ll never disparage another practitioner, but I’m definitely an evidence-based, science-oriented guy,” he said.
What can patients expect when they visit Mavor Chiropractic?
“Humor. I try to keep it light and funny because people can feel nervous when visiting chiropractors,” Mavor said. “And I work really hard to make sure my patients feel reassured.”
He also said that carefully explaining his process is an important part of treatment.
“I show my patients what’s going to happen without doing it. We do a dry run and I’ll explain everything, and then I’ll ask them for permission before moving forward,” he added.
This helps put his patients at ease, he said, and allows them to remain in charge of their own treatment experience.
Mavor’s patients might even be lucky enough to meet Mavor’s occasional office mascot; an affable French bulldog named Albert.
Mavor Chiropractic offers a variety of services, from chiropractic manipulation and physical therapy to ergonomic exercises, workplace evaluations and more. Mavor is also licensed and credentialed with a variety of different health insurance providers.

There is no one better than Jason Mavor! I’ve been his patient for 12+ years and trust him completely with my care. I especially appreciate that he does deep tissue massage before making any adjustments. And he’s always suggesting stretches and exercises to further my healing at home. I highly recommend him!
