Watertown Group Screening Movie on U.S.’s Role in Gaza

The Peace and Common Security Working Group of Watertown Citizens for Peace Justice and the Environment will present a film at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 29 at the Watertown Free Public Library – Watertown Savings Bank Room. The film is “The Night Won’t End: Biden’s War on Gaza.”  The Group experienced a rough time securing a venue for this screening. Showing the film was twice canceled at the last minute by two different churches in Watertown.  Thus we are hoping for a strong turnout. Thank you for your support. The Night Won’t End.

State Rep. Lawn Named Legislator of the Year by Mass. National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys

Staten Rep. John Lawn (right) received the Legislator of the Year Award from MassNAELA Executive Director Clarence Richardson. At its annual meeting held on December 12, 2024, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (MassNAELA) honored several individuals for their advocacy efforts and commitment to raising awareness of legal issues affecting older adults. Watertown State Rep. John Lawn was named the Legislator of the Year for going above and beyond in supporting legislation that protects the rights and improves the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities. Mary Freeley, Director of the Attorney General’s Elder Justice Unit, received the Arthur Stavisky Award, an honor MassNAELA bestows each year to a person in the community who has dedicated themselves to advocating for seniors and promoting elder causes. Four organizations were presented the Deborah H. Thomson Advocacy Award, which recognizes efforts in advocating for elder issues in state government: Berkshire Arc, Guardian Community Trust, Planned Lifetime Assistance Network (PLAN) of MA and RI, and The Arc of Bristol County.

Watertown Field Hockey Player Invited to USA Field Hockey Junior National Camp

Watertown’s Regan Driscoll has been invited to the USA Field Hockey 2025 Junior National Camp. Driscoll started her high school career at Watertown High School before moving to Phillips Andover Academy. She will be vying out for a spot on the U-16 junior women’s squad at tryout camp held at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Jan. 10-12.

Small Saves Spreads the Christmas Spirit

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Neighborhood Covered in Dusting of Flour from Nearby Food Factory, Neighbors Frustrated by Response

Residents of one East End neighborhood woke up last week to what appeared to be a coating of snow, but what was falling from the sky for several hours was not flakes but flour. The flour came from the nearby Newly Weds Foods factory, located on Grove Street and abutting a neighborhood off Mt.
