Eastern Massachusetts opens May with a summery start before slipping into a cooler, more unsettled stretch.
Friday and Saturday feature warm temperatures, increasing humidity, and the potential for a few isolated strong thunderstorms. A more widespread shower threat returns Sunday as a stalled front lingers over the region. Next week trends cooler, with periods of cloudiness and scattered rain as a slow-moving upper-level low dominates the pattern. Despite the drearier outlook, there will still be breaks of sun — especially by midweek — as temperatures hover in the 60s with a few warmer inland spikes.
Friday, May 2 — Fog Lifts, Warmth Builds:
Low morning clouds and patchy fog give way to partial sunshine by midday. Afternoon highs climb to 77–80°F northwest of I-95, with slightly cooler conditions southeast due to a lingering marine layer. Humidity ticks up, with dewpoints nearing 60°F. An isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm is possible inland, but most areas stay dry. Southwest winds at 6–10 mph. Friday night is mild and partly cloudy with lows in the upper 50s to near 60°F. Fog may redevelop along the South Coast and Cape.
Saturday, May 3 — Warm and Muggy with Thunder Risk:
A summer preview. Partly sunny skies and southwest winds drive temperatures into the low to mid 80s inland, with 70s near the coast. A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late in the day, mainly along and northwest of the I-95 corridor. Brief downpours, hail, and gusty winds are possible with any stronger cells. Winds from the southwest at 8–12 mph. Saturday night is mostly cloudy and humid with scattered showers and a low near 61°F.
Sunday, May 4 — Cooler, Showery, and Cloudy:
A frontal boundary near the region keeps skies mostly cloudy with scattered showers, especially during the morning and early afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible across the interior. Temperatures vary by location: upper 50s on the Islands, low 60s along the coast, and upper 60s to low 70s inland. Winds become light and variable. Sunday night remains damp and cool, with lows around 51°F.
Monday, May 5 — Overcast and Cooler with Spotty Rain:
A shift to northeast winds brings cooler, marine-influenced air. Expect a cloudy day with periods of light rain or drizzle. Highs stay around 55–58°F. Breezy conditions near the coast make it feel even cooler. Monday night is cloudy and damp with lows in the upper 40s.
Tuesday, May 6 — Showers Possible, Limited Sunshine:
Mostly cloudy skies dominate with intermittent showers developing by afternoon. Highs hover in the low to mid 60s inland, upper 50s near the coast. East winds at 6–10 mph. Tuesday night turns wetter, with steadier showers likely and a mild low in the mid 50s.
Wednesday, May 7 — Gradual Improvement, Seasonably Mild:
A mix of clouds and sun with a chance for lingering morning showers. Afternoon highs rise to 68–72°F inland with some upper 60s along the coast. Winds from the southwest at 8–12 mph. Breaks of sun likely increase by late day. Wednesday night remains partly cloudy with a low near 53°F.
Thursday, May 8 — Partly Sunny, Slight Chance of Showers:
Improving conditions. Expect partly sunny skies and a slight chance for a stray shower in the afternoon. Highs reach 65–68°F. Winds shift north around 6–9 mph. Thursday night is dry and seasonably cool, with lows near 49°F.
Friday, May 9 — Early Look: Bright and Dry Finish Possible:
Current trends favor a dry and pleasant end to the week. Highs in the upper 60s to near 70°F with partly to mostly sunny skies. Confidence in fair weather increases, though timing of any lingering upper-level disturbances will be fine-tuned in future updates.
