Winners of 2025 Historical Preservation Awards Announced at Event Hosted by Gore Place

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

The Watertown Historical Commission announced its 2025 Historical Preservation Awards at a
ceremony on June 5, 2025 attended by over 75 people.

“Watertown has a rich history and it takes work to preserve it,” Commission Chair Elise Loukas said. ‘These awards celebrate people and organizations who do the work and help us all in preserving the city’s history for future generations.”

The awards ceremony is held every two years to honor individuals, organizations and projects that have shown leadership in historic preservation in Watertown. This year’s ceremony was held at Gore Place’s Carriage House.

Susan Steele
The Richard E. Mastrangelo Memorial Award
For 16 years of dedicated service as a member of the Watertown Historical Commission

Joyce Kelly
Citizenship Award
For her years of leadership preserving and celebrating local history in addition to her long-standing contributions and leadership at the Historical Society of Watertown

Ciara Leonard
Community Spirit Award
For her paper on the history of immigrants in Watertown, published on Boston College’s “Global
Boston” website in 2024

Alexandria Real Estate Equities
Architectural Preservation Award
For the 400 North Beacon Street restoration project at Arsenal on the Charles

Department of Public Works and Irving Park team
Environmental Preservation Award
For the Irving Park Restoration Project. This award was accepted by the Department of Public Works on behalf of all members of the project “team.”

ReModern Builders
Historical Resources Preservation Award
For its donation of labor and skill to help the Historical Society of Watertown with its Fowle House entry doors

Marina Shektman of Design Studio/Gilberto Mendes at Woodworks Custom Homes
Developer Award
For restoration of 21-23 Springfield Street

John Cimino
Developer Award
For restoration of 437 Mt. Auburn Street
