Summer reading is for everyone! This year, the Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) is inviting all ages to Read About Town and complete reading challenges inspired by Watertown landmarks.For younger readers ages 5 – 11, there’s also a chance to get a book signed by Newbery Honoree Grace Lin! Here’s a look at everything the Library has planned:
Read About Town
June 16 – August 22 | All Ages | Children, teens, and adults invited to pick up a Read About Town map at the Library and complete reading challenges inspired by our local community! While getting familiar with some Watertown landmarks, you’ll collect stickers for your map and earn raffle tickets for fabulous prizes at the library. Play solo, play as a team, or play as a family. You do not need to travel across Watertown to play.
Author Visit: Grace Lin
Sunday, June 22 | 1 PM | Ages 5 –11 | at WFPL | Want to inspire a young reader in your life? The Library is kicking off summer with a special book-signing event with award-winning children’s author Grace Lin! Lin is a Newbery, Geisel, and Caldecott honoree, known for contributing to and advocating for Asian American representation and diversity in children’s literature. Her new book, The Gate, the Girl, and the Dragon, is out now. You may recognize her other books like Chinese Menu, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, Ling & Ting, Dim Sum for Everyone, A Big Mooncake for Little Star, and more. Books will be available for purchase from Porter Square Books.
Summer Reading Block Party!
Friday, July 25 | 4 – 6 PM | All Ages | Saltonstall Field | Celebrate the halfway point of WFPL Summer Reading with dancing, music, ice cream, prizes, and more! (Rain location: Inside WFPL)
Teen Summer Reading Auction
Wednesday, August 20 | Time TBD | Grades 6 – 12 | at WFPL | The Teen Summer Reading Auction is back! Teens in grades 6 – 12 will earn one “auction dollar” for every hour they read or listen. Sign up in the WFPL Teen Room or on the Library website beginning June 16!
