Nikolas Atanasov

Nikola Atanasov, age 77, passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Dragica “Carol” (Lesar) Atanasov, with whom he had shared over 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Nov Dojran, Macedonia on February 24, 1948, he was one of eight children to the late George and Magda (Deleva) Atanasov. Nick spent his younger years growing up in Macedonia, and in 1973 he moved to America, but not before he met the love of his life, Carol. The two met when they were both working in Germany, and it didn’t take much time at all for them to fall in love and decide to start building a life together. The first of their two children was born abroad, and when they had everything ready in the states the whole family settled down in Boston.

Nick worked at a breakfast and lunch spot in Boston for many years while at the same time working alongside a master plumber in the area. He learned the tricks of the trade and harnessed his skills, and after several years of training branched off and started his own plumbing business. He owned his business, Nick and Sons Plumbing and Heating for over 40 years, and ran it with a tremendous amount of heart. Nick was deeply compassionate and humble, and always felt for his clients who needed his services during difficult times. He was the type of person who would do some work without pay, strictly in the hopes of being able to help someone who might need it.

Nick’s dedication to his business and work life paled in comparison to his dedication to his family. As a husband, father, and later grandfather, he was truly one of the best. Raising his sons alongside his loving wife was the greatest time of his life, until his grandchildren came along.  From the moment they were born, Nick’s entire world changed, and there was no length he wouldn’t go for them. Whether he was attending one of their sports or school events, or taking them on one of their many trips to Disney World, Nick took every opportunity to show them how much he loved them. For his wife, children, and grandchildren, he truly was an ever-present source of strength, guidance, and unwavering love.

In his free time, Nick enjoyed traveling as often as he could with Carol. They went back to Europe several times throughout the years, and also went to places around the U.S. and to the Caribbean. The two also enjoyed attending yearly Greek Festivals in the local communities they were a part of. Nick especially enjoyed the festival in Watertown, where he would get to see many friends and clients. Later, when their grandchildren came along, it became a yearly tradition to go to the festivals together, and it quickly became something the whole family looked forward to. Above all else, Nick will be remembered for his deeply caring nature, the innate compassion he had for others, and the deep rooted love and adoration he had for his family and friends.

Along with his loving wife, Carol, Nick is survived by his two beloved sons, Daniel Atanasov and his wife Judith Christa of Blackstone and Nicholas Atanasov and his cherished grandchildren, Caroline Atanasov, Christian Atanasov, and Jason Atanasov; his dear siblings, Helen J. Yanefski and her late husband Kirk, and Kiro Atanasov and his wife Sarah of Saugus, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, December 18 th from 4 pm until 7 p.m. at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. His Funeral Services will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 19th with a Funeral Service being held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
