The following announcement was provided by Daniel Lander for State Senate:

Former State Senator and Massachusetts AFL-CIO President Steve Tolman endorsed Daniel Lander’s campaign for state senate, citing Daniel’s history of supporting organized labor and fighting for working people. With only twenty days until the democratic primary, this endorsement brings additional momentum to Lander’s challenge to Senator Will Brownsberger, the architect of the broken status quo on Beacon Hill.

Tolman grew up in Watertown and lives in Brighton, and he represented this senate seat from 1999 until 2011, before leaving to lead the Massachusetts AFL-CIO from 2012 to 2023. His brother Warren Tolman also represented the district in the State Senate from 1995 to 1999.

“I’m endorsing Daniel Lander because I know he’ll fight for working people in our district and across Massachusetts. Daniel has walked the picket line, joined workers at the bargaining table, and been an outspoken advocate for organized labor. He won’t back down from a fight, and we need that leadership in the state senate so that everyone has the opportunity to build a good life in our communities,” said Steve Tolman, former State Senator for the Suffolk and Middlesex District

“I am proud to earn Senator Tolman’s endorsement in this race. He has fought for workers rights and the people of this district his entire life,” said Daniel Lander. “In this moment, we need leaders who will stand up for working people, and won’t carry water for big corporate interests. In the state senate, I hope to carry on Steve’s example by challenging the broken Beacon Hill status quo to ensure that everyone has the right to organize, and to build good lives in our neighborhoods.”

Tolman’s endorsement builds up Lander’s endorsement from the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, and makes clear that with election day only a few weeks away, Lander’s campaign has built significant momentum.

Daniel Lander is running for the State Senate to take on the broken status quo and make Beacon Hill work for the people. He grew up in this district and has worked alongside progressive leaders like Senator Elizabeth Warren, Stacey Abrams and Mayor Michelle Wu.
